Diane Clarke Delehanty, LICSW, PMH-C
I started my career with a focus on promoting the positive well-being of young children. I realized years later that sharing information with parents on what works in the preschool setting could work in the home. Based on that notion, I returned to school to get a Master’s in Family Support and Parent Education. This experience and my work to provide psycho-educational support to parents and caregivers simultaneously helped my family as we moved through uncharted waters of parenting young children.
Working with parents individually and in groups motivated me to research topics that touch family life, including perinatal mental health. I was dealing with my grief from a stillbirth, secondary infertility, and multiple miscarriages. As a lifelong learner, I wanted to gain more clinical knowledge and skills to help individuals understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to take on new self-growth perspectives. Since completing my MSW degree and obtaining my LICSW, I have been fortunate to work in multiple settings with different populations in social services; more recently, I yearned to support families during their perinatal stage of life, knowing how misunderstood hormonal changes can impact mental health.
Now it’s my time to give back by offering support to individuals experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety, even if the onset is delayed. One of the most essential tools of therapy is building a therapeutic alliance to facilitate the problem-solving process. I get satisfaction in seeing the light bulb go off in clients when they gain the insight they need to take a step forward. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy works well with clients who are feeling challenged by the monumental changes during pregnancy and the early years after childbirth. We will build on current coping mechanisms that work well and work towards leaning on those you trust to support you during vulnerable times.
I look forward to partnering with you on this journey!
